After working with the U9 players since the beginning of April this year, we believe there is great potential for even more success in the future. From the very first training session back at the beginning of April we have had phenomenal numbers turning up for training every Monday evening. For the 21 training sessions, we had no less than 24 players in attendance with a full contingent of 33 at some sessions.

The U9 players took part in 5 Go-Game blitzes during the year in Dunlavin(x2), Baltinglass, Stratford and Ballinakill. We were in the enviable position of being able to field 2 teams at most of these blitzes.

There was also an opportunity this year to extend the season into the autumn with midweek floodlit games in Valleymount, Baltinglass and Donard. Again, interest was so high in this we were able to field 2 teams in all but one of the weeks. This is a credit to the children’s interest to be involved and, also, to the parents commitment to making their children available and getting them to these events in addition to the weekly training sessions.

The highlight of the U9 players year was undoubtedly taking the field at Aughrim during half time of the intermediate championship football final to play the exhibition match against the Kilmacanogue U9 team in front of all their family and friends. An occasion they and the coaches will never forget and, hopefully, the first of many final appearances in Aughrim for these players. It has been a pleasure for us to be involved with this team and witness first hand the development of the future of our club.
